"It is possible to commit no mistakes and still lose. That is not a weakness. That is life." ~~ Captain Jean-Luc Picard, Peak PerformanceWhile I was taking a brisk walk through the park, I heard heavy footsteps approaching from behind me. I noticed it was a teenage boy. The boy quickly overtook me. There I was thinking I was walking at light speed only for the boy to make me feel like a snail.
I've been watching the reality TV show, Strictly Come Dancing, where celebrities and their professional dance partners compete with each other. One celebrity was terrible but very entertaining and the audience kept voting to keep him in. After a few weeks, the audience stopped voting for him and he was finally eliminated. During his exit interview, the celebrity talked about how he'd done his best every week. I thought it was amazing how he'd done his best and yet, his best was still rubbish.
Doing your best and still not being good enough reminds me of athletes who train really hard for the 100 metres only to be overtaken by a strolling Usain Bolt (the world record holder).
That's why it's not good to compare yourself to or compete with anyone else, as there's always going to be someone better than you.
I have to say, there's something I'm better at than anyone else in the universe - being me.
No one can be me quite like me.
